As you have heard from me in the past, the VCIA went through an intensive listening tour to assist in the development of a strategic plan for the future of the organization that matches the growth and dynamism within the industry. The process gave us three major pillars: Member/Community Engagement, Advocacy and Education, and it is on the third of these, education, that I want to focus this week.
Before I launch in, it's important to note that there are many positive changes occurring at the VCIA. Diane Leach has moved to Conference Education Manager, and Nikki Fitzcharles into Events Manager.
The Board heard the feedback from members and other stakeholders on this topic, which said that the three days that we ‘bring the world together’ in Vermont are outstanding, but that there was a strong desire for access to more extensive training and information. And the new goal, directed by our strategic plan, is to provide year round topical and useful-to-your-business captive insurance education.
To support that, we are now expanding and adding staff, specifically a New Director of Education to work on these expansions. The annual conference is going to continue to be our flagship product, but this expansion will develop relevance and recognition for the VCIA, our members and the industry.

Simply put: we're seeking someone bright, motivated, unafraid of big ideas and who has the ability to get their hands dirty and execute those innovative initiatives. Just as important, we're looking for someone who is a great team player and can sync well with our wonderful, close-knit staff.
Please do pass along this great opportunity to anyone that you think might be interested.
Of course, there will be strong linkage to the other pillar of Member/Community Engagement. The increase of our educational offerings connects to the expressed desire members of the captive industry have for more opportunities to interact and exchange information that happens in real time, able to keep pace with the rapid advancement of the industry.
Expect more news on Member/Community Engagement pillar, and the Advocacy pillar, soon.
P.S. For those of you who live in Vermont, you will see our job listing in the beloved alternative newspaper Seven Days for the next 3 weeks.
