The 2025 captive insurance conference circuit is underway! As you are likely aware, in addition to putting on the largest (and I would say also the best) captive conference in the country, the VCIA also attends some of the smaller events in our industry. The first of these, as usual, was the World Captive Forum. Returning to the Orlando area for the second year in a row, the event setting was glorious. The State of Vermont used their new booth for the first time, and it looked great. It is also a lot easier to assemble, which pleased the entire Vermont delegation.
While there, I was able to conduct formal and informal meetings with a large number of VCIA members and allies. Those conversations, together with the formal sessions indicate that this industry is still in expansionary mode with exciting new developments in all aspects of the creation and operation of captives.
I was also able to hold meetings with some of our own exhibitors and sponsors, and I have to say that we are very close to placing the ‘Sold Out’ sign on exhibit space for our 2025 conference. I am informed that Taylor Swift tickets also sell out pretty quickly, but I am thinking that we could give her a run for her money here, as we are still six months from showtime!
While in Orlando, I met with a former co-worker, who now works in communications within the accounting industry. The workforce issues that we see within our little bailiwick are writ large in the U.S. CPA firm space. Despite the advances with AI, the need for talented, numerate employees echoes across many industries.
Finally, those of you that know me, are well aware of the fact that I can bore you with rugby! And it is on that note that I will tell you that I will be present for Wales v. Ireland in Cardiff, Wales tomorrow afternoon. The tone of next week’s blog might be set by the result of that game!
